Girl, this RING'S on Fire!

JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE GETTING THE HANG OF EXOTICS
You haven't seen all the exotic stones yet. Here's one for the newbie list. It's called slate pyrite. Ashlee Simpson wears it to a Throwback Thursday Bash At Pink Taco in Los Angeles yesterday. You need to see it closer. Here ya go.

GEM IN A GEM

What your'e looking at are natural pyrite growths in a matrix (host) mineral of some kind. So like rutilated quartz which is a mineral in a mineral--this one is too, only it's opaque instead of transparent like a rutile quartz would be.

LOOK OUT-- HOT STUFF
Pyrite forms in the most amazing cubic crystals in the ground. It's an iron sulfide if you care to know.  And taking a cue from its highly reflective surfaces, its name is derived from a Greek word meaning fire! I guess so. Looks pretty hot from here.

Modern art? Famous sculpture? This is pyrite in its cubic crystal form as found in deposits in Rioja Spain. Ay Caramba!
