Is it his well-practiced forlorn visage that aroused such paddle fever? This colored diamond, citrine and ruby pup created by French designer René Boivan had a pre-auction estimate of between $70-$90K US at Sotheby's Important Jewels auction today, September 24th.

When the bidding was all over, this 18K gold canine was adopted out for $257K US. But that included the buyers premium, so perhaps that's the going rate for re-homing doggies these days.

The new owner can remove the ruby collar and wear it as a ring! This is getting more attractive by the minute.
